Basketball Training on Shelter Island, NY

ELITE SKILL DEVELOPMENT BETWEEN THE FERRIES

Don't let the ferry schedule dictate your development.

Living on the island means isolation is your biggest opponent. When the North Ferry has a line or the winter winds freeze the courts at Fiske Field, your development often hits a wall. While the Shelter Island "Islanders" recently broke a 5-year home losing streak, sustained success against rivals like Greenport and the Ross School requires more than just heart. X-Factor Basketball Training provides the elite instruction serious athletes need to bridge the gap.

We understand the logistics of island life. Whether you travel to us or book a premium private session, we provide advanced, pro-level instruction for players ready to refine their mechanics, footwork, and basketball IQ under the guidance of a current professional.

Why Choose Us

Worth the Commute

We know the "2-ferry commute" is a grind. That’s why we make every minute count. Whether you meet us at Sportime Quogue or catch our off-season groups in Greenport, we provide high-intensity work that makes the travel worth it.

Professional Pedigree

You are training with Xavier Allen, a NY State scoring leader and active pro. This is mentorship rooted in real high-level experience, adding elite skill to the local mantra that "Hustle is a talent."

No Beginners Allowed

We respect the grit of the Islanders. We do not accept beginners. You will train alongside other motivated, competitive athletes who are at an "Advanced 6th Grade" level or higher.

Concierge Training Options

For those with access to private indoor facilities on the island (common in Shelter Island Heights or Sylvester Manor areas), we offer premium travel-to-you options, bringing the pro lab directly to your doorstep.

Private & Semi-Private Training

The Shelter Island mantra is "Hustle is a talent," and with small rosters, that grit is non-negotiable. But to beat the Greenport Porters or the Ross School Ravens consistently, you need high-level skill to match that hustle. Our Private and Semi-Private training is designed to build the specific assets, shooting consistency, ball-handling under pressure, and defensive IQ, that make you a complete player. Led by Xavier Allen, we focus on the "Details" that allow you to dominate the boards and score efficiently, even when you don't have a deep bench to rely on.

We do not rely on scripted drills. We work on game-transferable skills that hold up against the physical "cross-bay" rivalries.

Our Focus Areas Include:

Elite Footwork & Balance:

Learning to operate efficiently in tight spaces, mirroring the mechanics Xavier uses against pro competition.

Game-Speed Shot Creation:

Moving beyond stationary shooting to master spacing, pace, and creating your own shot off the dribble.

Basketball IQ & Decision Making:

Understanding why to make a move, not just how. We teach you to see the floor like a pro.

Defensive Mechanics:

Advanced positioning and agility work to ensure you can guard the best player on the opposing team.

Mentorship:

Honest feedback on what it takes to succeed, from a trainer who currently navigates the professional basketball landscape.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where exactly do you train? Do I have to take the ferry?

My primary, consistent training location is Sportime in Quogue. However, during the high school off-season, I sometimes host groups at Greenport High School, which is just one short ferry ride away. For the most consistent year-round access, Sportime is the main hub.

Will you come to Shelter Island to train me?

I am willing to travel to the island if you have access to a high-quality indoor gym or private facility. However, please note that this will incur a gas/ferry fee and an overall higher price for labor to account for the travel time. If you are not willing to pay these additional fees, you must come to me.

Do you accept beginners from Shelter Island School?

No. I maintain a strict standard to ensure the quality of training. Athletes must be at an "Advanced 6th Grade" level or higher with prior competitive experience. With small rosters on the island, every player needs to be ready to compete; I am here to polish those competitive players.

Can you help me prepare for the Greenport or Ross School games?

Yes. These "cross-bay" rivalries are intense. I prepare athletes for this by drilling game-speed decisions and physical finishes. We teach players how to handle pressure and execute efficiently against the specific styles of play you will see from these local rivals.

Do you offer training for summer residents in Shelter Island Heights?

Yes. The island population triples in the summer. If you are a serious athlete visiting for the season and want to stay sharp, you can travel to Quogue or book a premium travel session if you have facility access.

Is the training compatible with the "Hustle is a Talent" philosophy?

Absolutely. Hustle gets you the ball; skill puts it in the basket. We love the local work ethic. We take that high motor and add professional polish, teaching you how to use your energy efficiently to become a relentless scorer and defender.
